Thursday, January 2, 2025 Air India has recently introduced a non-stop flight between Delhi and Newark, further strengthening its presence in the U.S. market.
This service makes Air India the sole operator of non-stop flights between India’s capital and the New York region using its advanced A350 aircraft. The Tata-owned airline has emphasized that this addition aligns with its broader strategy of enhancing international travel options and elevating passenger experience. This new route is part of a larger effort by Air India to modernize and expand its international network, with major changes slated for 2025.
These include deploying state-of-the-art A350 and B777 aircraft with upgraded cabin interiors on key routes to the U.S., UK, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
The airline is also optimizing flight schedules to provide greater flexibility for travelers, facilitating seamless connections between North America or Europe and Australia or Southeast Asia through its hubs in Delhi and Mumbai. Air India, along with Air India Express, currently operates a combined fleet of 298 aircraft, serving 55 domestic destinations and 48 international locations. However, the airline faces stiff competition from IndiGo, which has over 60% market share and a fleet of 418 aircraft, with new planes added almost weekly.
To stay competitive, Air India has announced plans to add 100 new aircraft to its fleet by 2027, with deliveries starting in 2026. In the meantime, the airline is leveraging Vistara.
