A plan for “luxury” homes at the edge of Bosworth Battlefield will be decided this week after councillors previously said the developer had to “do better”. Karl Maughan wants to build 25 homes on land at Mulberry Farm in Stoke Golding, near Hinckley , with a number of farm buildings set to be demolished to make way for the development. Officials at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council (HBBC) deferred on a decision for the plan in September after voicing their dissatisfaction with the absence of affordable housing within the proposal.

Concerns were also raised about the developer’s offer to pay a third of the requested financial obligations – known as S106 contributions – towards services and facilities. An independent consultant's report claimed it would not be financially viable to include affordable housing or to pay the full requested S106 sum, but many councillors were unhappy. At that September meeting, Councillor Ozzy O’Shea said: “We need to be looking at starter homes.

We don’t need to be looking at luxury homes . If it’s not affordable then don’t build it. Give us the homes we need for the community! These are not affordable.
