Q. I’m wondering if you’re able to make sense of this for me: I have just turned 50 and my wife is quite a bit younger than me (mid-thirties). She really wants a child and I thought I wanted that too.
But since this milestone birthday, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about my own mortality and the fact that, by the time my potential children are off to university, I will be pushing 70. I lost my parents when I was relatively young, and I don’t want my children to go through the same thing. Am I worrying unnecessarily? A.
Thank you for this heartfelt question. Choosing whether to have a child is a momentous decision for you both. It is obvious, but I will say it anyway: your decision will impact every aspect of your life.
This is a problem you need to worry about..
