The Little Britain star visited Caper bookstore in Magdalen Road for the book signing at 4.30pm yesterday. Families queued up to buy copies of Super Sleuth and get them signed.
Xander Cansell opened the east Oxford bookstore about a year ago and Mr Walliams is his most famous guest author to date. Mr Walliams said: "There's nothing better than an independent bookshop - it's an absolute labour of love. "The books are beautifully curated in such a lovely space - I was delighted to be able to come along and see it.
"Oxford is such a beautiful city but I wasn't clever enough to go to university here." Mr Walliams took the time to chat to his fans and told one of them he had three Border Terriers called Eric, Ernie and Bert who "ran riot". Some fans travelled from outside Oxford to meet the Little Britain star.
Charlotte and Ben Blakemore came from Wolverhampton for the signing. Charlotte said: "We're big fans of David - it's the first time we have met him - he's the same star sign as me. "We really enjoy reading his books and watching him on TV.
" Mr Walliams is a bestselling children's author known for his humorous stories including Billionaire Boy and Gangsta Granny. Super Sleuth is his first ever murder mystery, a tale that follows Dilly and Watson, a detective duo who find themselves on a luxury ocean liner bound for London. Mr Cansell said: "We are thrilled that David found the time to visit us - it's been brilliant for the bookshop.
