Iconic filmmaker David Lynch , known for his groundbreaking work on ‘ Twin Peaks ,’ reassured fans on Monday that he has no plans to retire , despite his recent diagnosis of emphysema . In a candid statement on social media platform X, the 78-year-old director expressed his gratitude to everyone who voiced concern over his health. He revealed that his many years of smoking had led to his lung disease, which has no known cure.
“Yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking. I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco—the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them,” Lynch wrote. “But there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema.

He shared that his emphysema has made him homebound, a situation exacerbated by the threat of COVID-19. “I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long, and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not.
.. And now, because of COVID, it would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” he told the magazine.
Lynch also mentioned that he could only walk a short distance before running out of oxygen. While a representative for David Lynch did not respond to requests for further comment, the director hinted at the possibility of continuing his work remotely.
