The next phase of the A435 Cycleway route is set to kick off in the new year, with a drop-in event scheduled for those keen to learn more. The completed A435 Cycleway will provide a link from to Bishop's Cleeve, offering an enhanced walking and cycling path. This cycleway will be part of the cycle spine that connects Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham and , significantly improving access to homes, workplaces, educational institutions and transport hubs.
It's a step towards a greener Gloucestershire and aligns with the county council's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045. Currently, the first section of the , stretching from the Honeybourne Line to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout, is under construction. This is slated for completion by the end of 2024.
Montel Civil Engineering Ltd has recently been awarded the contract to construct the second section of the A435 Cycleway, which will run from the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) bridge to Bishop's Cleeve Roundabout. They will also build a section from Wellington Road to Central Cross Drive near Pittville Park in Cheltenham, tying in with the ongoing works on the first section and further extending the improved pedestrian and cycle access. Work is due to begin on Monday, January 6 2025.
