Gloomy conditions with persistent showers and colder than usual spring temperatures greeted most of the Southeast this morning. The Bureau of Meteorology advises cooler-than-usual temperatures and showers are expected to continue until midday Sunday, with warmer weather and sunshine forecast to creep back that afternoon. BOM have put out a warning for severe weather.
“We’re seeing a low pressure system off of the coast, over the water, and it’s really driving some cool southerlies and some rain onto Southeast Queensland,” senior meteorologist Angus Hines said. “The heaviest rain is likely to be in the far south – the likes of Coolangatta and the Gold Coast. We could see 20 to 25mm of further rainfall through the rest of the day on Saturday in those southern areas,” Mr Hines said.
“And across Brisbane itself, we could see 5 to 10mm, maybe 15 falling.” Running Creek, near the Queensland-NSW border, recorded 54mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, while Queen Mary Falls saw 35mm. However, Brisbane has experienced more moderate rainfall, receiving between 3mm and 10mm overnight.
