Nearly 30 years after the first film was released in theaters, Disney showcased the next installment of the beloved Toy Story franchise during Friday’s studio showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event . During the showcase, Pixar Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter shared new story details and concept art (see above) for the upcoming sequel, Toy Story 5 . Hitting theaters in 2026, Toy Story 5 will feature a story of toy versus tech.

Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang see their jobs getting exponentially harder when they go head to head with an all-new threat to playtime with the kids. Andrew Stanton ( WALL*E , Finding Nemo , Finding Dory ) directs the fifth film, which is co-directed by McKenna Harris and produced by Jessica Choi. Toy Story 5 opens in theaters on June 19, 2026.
