During Friday’s studio showcase for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event , Avatar franchise creator and filmmaker James Cameron was on hand to reveal new details on the third installment of the film series, which is now officially titled Avatar: Fire and Ash . The threequel will arrive in theaters in December 2025. Cameron was joined onstage by Avatar stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña.

The upcoming film will return audiences back to the planet of Pandora for an immersive new adventure following the Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully (Worthington), Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Saldaña), and the rest Sully family. Fire and Ash is directed by Cameron, from 20th Century Studios and Lightstorm Entertainment. It also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin, Jack Champion, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, and Bailey Bass.



The film will open exclusively in theaters nationwide on December 19, 2025. Cameron will also be inducted as an official Disney Legend during Sunday’s ceremony at D23.
