Monday, January 20, 2025 Cyprus, a Mediterranean island known for its rich history and picturesque landscapes, is increasingly focusing on strengthening its tourism ties with the United States. The Deputy Minister of Tourism in Cyprus, Costas Koumis, highlighted the positive impact that a closer relationship between the US and Cyprus would have on the island’s tourism sector. During a recent press conference, Koumis shared his insights into the efforts being made to promote Cyprus as a key destination for American travelers.
The press event also served as the backdrop for the announcement of a new grant initiative aimed at modernizing and upgrading hotels and tourist accommodations in Cyprus’ rural, mountainous, and remote regions. Modernization Initiative for Rural Areas A key focus of the Cyprus tourism ministry’s plan is to invest in the improvement of rural and less-developed regions. The government allocated €3 million to upgrade accommodations in these areas, which are often overlooked by tourists due to their limited infrastructure.
The initiative is designed to make these areas more competitive by enhancing the quality of accommodations and, in turn, improving the overall tourist experience. This strategic move aims to support local businesses and foster economic growth in underdeveloped regions, which will ultimately have a significant impact on the broader Cyprus tourism market. This program’s emphasis on rural areas aligns with Cyprus’ broader objective.
