A popular cookie store in the US has announced it is opening Australian stores following the viral “fraud” pop-up stall in Sydney where organisers were accused of duping customers. Last Sunday, waves of excited fans lined up outside of a North Bondi shop which was selling the biscuits for a pricey $17.50 each.

A day later, the organisers put out a statement online to their TikTok account @crumblsydney after fans realised the brand wasn’t actually affiliated with the US company whatsoever. The scandal created a social media storm with fans calling out the “deceptive” organisers, who said they “never claimed” to be an official Crumbl store and were just “fans importing”. It was later revealed that they flew to the US, bought over 800 cookies worth thousands of dollars, and flew back to Australia to re-sell them.

Since the ordeal, the official Crumbl Cookies store has revealed they have plans to open stores in Australia. A spokesperson said the company had been “amazed” by the recent support of its Aussie fans. “Crumbl has been inspired to accelerate plans to provide all dessert-loving Aussies, with a true Crumbl experience,” they said.

While there are no updates just yet on when or where these stores will be, there is now a dedicated Instagram account for the Aussie fans. The @crumblsydney TikTok account has since deleted all of its videos following the huge backlash online, with people labelling the whole incident “straight-up fraud”..
