An expensive mistake by a cruise passenger saw them return home to a hefty bill. The holidaymakers had been aboard a Royal Caribbean ship with their family but forgot to turn their phone to aeroplane mode for their voyage. The unnamed passenger had signed up for the cruise line’s Wi-Fi package but had not switched to airplane mode.

As they relaxed, the phone’s apps used data in the background as the ship sailed, leaving the traveller unwittingly racking up data roaming charges from a wide range of providers. To make matters worse, their child was streaming videos throughout the trip, adding to the data usage . The account was detailed by YouTuber Jayson Judson who explained what happened once they arrived home.



On their return, they opened a bill detailing the £1,050 in data roaming charges they had incurred. According to Judson, the traveller tried to dispute the charge but was unsuccessful, as it was ultimately their error. A travel blogger recently took to the internet to warn of this exact thing, although seemingly, the unwitting data user had not read it.
