Pune: A 47-year-old techie lost about Rs26.5 lakh in a parcel fraud, wherein the suspects posed as officials from a courier company , Mumbai police and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to the police, the fraud took place on Aug 9 and 10.

The woman, who is a resident of Pimple Saudagar, lodged a complaint with at the Sangvi police station on Tuesday. A police officer, while talking to TOI, said the woman received a call from an unknown number on Aug 9. “The caller, who claimed to be from a courier company, told the woman that the customs department had caught a parcel bearing her details.



As per the caller, the parcel was being sent to Iran and contained four expired Iranian passports, five credit cards and MD drugs,” the officer said. “When the woman denied sending any parcel to Iran, the caller requested her to file a police complaint. He then connected her to another suspect, who posed as an officer from Mumbai police.

The woman was then asked to download a mobile application to file an online complaint,” the officer added. The complainant was also informed that her bank accounts were also being used for laundering money. “The woman ended up transferring Rs 26.
