Pune: A software engineer (46) from Wagholi has lodged a police complaint stating that cybercrooks cheated her of Rs49.37 lakh between April and June this year after promising high returns on her investment in online trading of shares. The techie had reported the matter to the Pune Cyber police in Aug, which was referred to the Lonikand police for registration of a formal FIR on Wednesday after due verification.

Police said the woman had received a text on a messaging application offering handsome profits in online share trading . She contacted the group admin, who sent a link to her. The techie then started trading shares online, police said, adding that it was only a screen software manipulated by the suspects in real time.

According to the police, the woman invested a small amount using the application, but the suspects called her up on the messaging application and asked her to invest in high-value stocks to get handsome returns. The admin then shared details of five bank accounts with her, and the woman transferred money to these accounts. The suspects stopped communicating with her after receiving the money, police said.
