The event marked the inaugural session of the newly established National Council for Tourism Development, where Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic emphasized the importance of strategic planning, sustainability, and pricing caution for 2025 to maintain Croatia’s standing as a top global destination. Held at the Ambasador Hotel in Opatija, the session brought together around 90 participants, including representatives from all ministries, tourism stakeholders, and key industry players.
The council, chaired by the Prime Minister and formed under Croatia’s new tourism law, aims to provide a comprehensive approach to managing and developing the country’s thriving tourism sector. Prime Minister Plenkovic underscored the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to address emerging challenges and ensure sustainable growth. Topics discussed included tax reforms, housing policies related to tourism, employment measures, and security regulations for foreign nationals.
The 2024 tourism season exceeded expectations, with Croatia welcoming 21 million tourists, a 3% increase from the previous year. Additionally, 107 million overnight stays were recorded, a 1% rise from 2023. Prime Minister Plenkovic highlighted these achievements, noting that tourism revenues are projected to reach an all.
