A Devon clubhouse has been destroyed by a fire this morning, Friday, August 16. Firefighters were battling a large fire at the Heathcoat Cricket Club in Tiverton after their clubhouse was engulfed by flames this morning. Heathcoat Cricket Club has released a statement to tell members their clubhouse has been "destroyed" by a fire.

It said: "Many of you will have already heard the devastating news that the club house at Heathcoat Cricket Club at Knightshayes has been destroyed by fire. "On behalf of everyone at the club we wish to thank Devon and Cornwall Fire Brigade for their assistance and efforts to control the fire. At this stage it is too early to define the cause.

We were incredibly proud of our remarkable clubhouse, however a club is more than just a building. "A club is defined by its community and rest assured we will rebuild the Clubhouse.

It is not believed that anyone has sustained injuries. People have responded to the shocking news, with many saying they are "devastated" to hear about the fire. One person said: "Awful news such a beautiful place".

Another added: "Such awful news, great memories held there". Another said: "Such amazing memories here and of watching it being built..

.but as you say HCC is more than a building. X".

Another person added: "Devastated to hear this news this morning, a wonderful place made with wonderful people. Nothing will destroy the community spirit or those amazing views" "Devastating news and heart goes out to all at the Heathcoat Cricket Club. Charlotte Eustace and I have so many wonderful happy memories of evening cricket and am sure the Phoenix will arise!" wrote another.
