Sunday, August 25, 2024 CPKC ends lockout and resumes rail services, urging workers to return on Sunday to swiftly restore Canada’s economy and stabilize supply chains. Canadian Pacific Kansas City (TSX: CP) (NYSE: CP) (CPKC) has announced plans to resume railway operations in Canada starting at 12:01 AM ET on Monday, August 26, following a directive from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB). The CIRB’s order mandates that CPKC recommence its operations and that Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) employees return to work.

In compliance with the CIRB’s decision, CPKC is lifting the lockout that began on Thursday, August 22. The company has requested that TCRC employees return to work for the day shift on Sunday to help restore Canada’s economy quickly and minimize further supply chain disruptions. CPKC is implementing a restart plan to ensure a safe and orderly resumption of rail services across Canada.

The company is coordinating with customers to facilitate a balanced return to regular operations. A case management meeting with the CIRB is scheduled for Thursday, August 29, to discuss the implementation of final binding interest arbitration. In line with the CIRB’s order, the existing collective agreements between CPKC and the TCRC will remain in effect.

The CIRB’s order came after a directive from the Canadian Minister of Labour on Thursday, August 22, utilizing his authority under Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code. CPKC eagerly anticipates welcoming back its Canadian locomotive engineers, conductors, yardpersons, and dispatchers. The company is committed to restoring the railway to full capacity, resuming customer service, and supporting the movement of Canada’s trade and commerce throughout North America.

This CIRB order concludes months of uncertainty and disruption for the Canadian economy and North American supply chains. CPKC expects it will take several weeks for the railway network to fully recover from the work stoppage and for supply chains to stabilize..
