Ruxandra Porojnicu is perhaps best known for her Coronation Street role of Alina Pop, who was trafficked from Romania to the UK in the series. And as the actress is set to return to the soap opera, Ruxandra is also branching out to the film industry after sharing the details for her latest project. Sharing the trailer for the upcoming movie Sumotherhood, Alina shared that she’s set to star alongside the writer, director and actor Adam Deacon.
She’ll also act alongside Jennifer Saunders, Ed Sheeran , Jaime Winstone, and Denise van Outen . Taking to Instagram , the actress said: "Hey Sprinkle, SUMOTHERHOOD comes in cinema October 13th." The film is a sequel to the 2011 movie Anuvahood, and even features cameos from Loose Women ’s Linda Robson , and Jeremy Corbyn .
The film’s official plot synopsis reads : "In this parody of the UK urban genre, Riko and Kane have got it all...
big dreams, no respect and a fifteen grand debt. Could things get any worse? Yes! It continued: "So, it’s time to man up and finally be taken serious as 'Roadmen'. Once putting their heads together on various ways to make some money, they decide to rob a megastar in a nightclub toilet and hold up the local bank but things inevitably don’t go to plan!! However, somehow a misunderstanding leads them to be desired and acquired for business with one of East London’s toughest firms, putting them in the line of fire to the firm’s arch-rivals.
" The synopsis concludes: "Can Riko and Kane live up to their name? Will Riko win the affection of Tamara and if he does, will Tyrese, Tamara’s lunatic stepbrother, allow Riko to live? Will his life be worth living if the local London Feds draw a line back to our duo? Anything can happen when Riko and Kane are on the scene in this new action-packed urban comedy." Fans of Corrie will recall how Ruxandra's character Alina worked in a nail bar in Weatherfield, before the trafficking ring was uncovered by Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) and undercover police informant Jan Lozinski (Piotr Baumann). Her character was finally able to return home, but soon came back to the cobbles.
Eventually, a relationship between Tyrone ( Alan Halsall ) and Alina blossomed, causing him to end his relationship with Fiz (Jennie McAlpine). Her character eventually announced that she was pregnant with Tyrone’s child, but suffered a miscarriage after Fiz’s daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) was confirmed to be behind a fire at their flat. Alina went back to Romania after learning that Tyrone kept Hope’s troubled past behind her, withholding from her ex that she was pregnant once again.
Her character is set to step foot on the cobbles once again, with Fiz discovering that Alina may be called as a witness in a court trial involving a human trafficking gang. SUMOTHERHOOD hits cinemas on October 13..
