From cheese to gin, biscuits to clotted cream, seasalt to kimchi, Cornwall's food is one of the finest in the country. As well as our beaches, rugged coastlines, moors and fishing villages and unique shops, the food our artisans produce is one of the reasons people visit the county. Every year the Guild of Fine Food releases the results for its Great Taste competition to determine who produces the best food.

This year Cornwall won a total of 27 awards, including 17 one-star, nine two-stars and one three-stars, the highest accolade available at this level. It is Cornish Yarg from Lynher Dairies Cheese Company in Ponsanooth, between and which won the highest accolade possible while its wild garlic Yarg and Cornish Kern both won two-star accolade. The Great Taste awards are an internationally recognised standard and this year nearly 3,500 companies from 115 countries around the world entered the competition, offering an incredible 13,672 products for review.



The UK entered 8,008 products from 2,528 companies. John Farrand, managing director of the Guild of Fine Food, said that each entry is meticulously blind-tasted by the Guild’s expert judging panel of over 500 food critics, chefs, recipe creators, buyers, retailers, and other specialists in the field of food and drink. Entries were analysed across 92 judging days, each receiving detailed feedback, whether or not they obtained an award.

Only 1.9 per cent of all entries (266 in total globally, 131 from the UK) received a three-star award, given to ‘extraordinarily tasty food and drink’. With 10.
