Sigatoka’s Coral Coast Carnival is back after a five-year hiatus. During the festival’s opening on Saturday, Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa said this year’s theme was “Breaking the Waves of Addiction”, with a primary focus on drug addiction. “As we kick off a week-long festivity, let us take a moment to appreciate the stunning beauty that surrounds us — the azure waters, and the bula smiles of our friends and family that has made Fiji one of the most warm and welcoming tourist preferred holiday destination,” Mr Nalumisa said.
“This year’s carnival theme reminds us that drug addiction is not just a personal battle; it is a public health crisis that touches us all.” Festival organising committee secretary, Ramesh Naidu said this was a long-awaited event for the people of Sigatoka. He said there was hardly any festive occasion since the last Coral Coast Festival.
“Our major sponsor is Vodafone and we are glad that we got the support from the people and other businesses as well,” Mr Naidu said. “And we have got seven queens who are vying for Miss Coral Coast 2024, and we haven’t really changed the carnival because we wanted to bring the exact same feeling of joy this town felt before COVID.” Miss Coral Coast 2024 will be crowned this Saturday.
