Pune: The traffic police department has started talks with a global tech giant to resolve congestion at 302 signaled junctions. Of the total 750 junctions in Pune city, 302 have traffic signals. “We already had a meeting with the technology company and more talks are on,” said additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil.

“With their data, we can easily resolve traffic issues at these 302 junctions by managing signal timings and deputing traffic personnel,” he added. According to the police, traffic congestion at these signals are due to various reasons, and often, cops receive information of traffic build-up after a gap of a few minutes. “But the technology company can provide us with real-time data, which we can use to monitor the roads.

If something happens along a certain route, in terms of traffic jams or slow-moving traffic, we can quickly respond to the situation,” Patil said. Authorities said the tech giant will provide live data on traffic movement at the junctions to the traffic control room. It will notify the control room about the traffic situation in green or red.

Red colour on a stretch indicates heavy congestion or a jam while green suggests smooth movement. Patil said: “The section of road shown in red on the screens at the traffic control room will be cleared off immediately. For this purpose, traffic cops and senior officers will remain at the troubled junctions during peak hours.
