Bhubaneswar: More than 24 hours after the broad daylight murder of a man in Khurda town , 20 km from here, police are clueless about the killers and motive behind murder. Shaikh Sajid, a 28-year-old man from Muslim basti of Mukund Prasad, a locality on the outskirts of Khurda town, was allegedly murdered by a group of unidentified assailants with sharp weapons on Sunday afternoon. The incident sparked off tension forcing DGP Y B Khurania to rush to the town.

To contain the angry mob, who ransacked several shops and damaged vehicles in some neighbouring localities, Khurda sub-divisional magistrate imposed section 163 of BNS, a prohibitory order. Police said normalcy has returned but assailants are still on the run. “We have formed several police teams to nab the culprits.

It seems three or more people were involved in the crime. We have activated the intelligence network to get information about the assailants’ whereabouts. Our aim is to prevent further loss to life and property.

We have ensured that. We will catch the culprits soon,” said Sanjay Koushal, IG, central range. Three wards in Mukund Prasad and two wards under Khurda municipality jurisdiction are under surveillance and prohibitory order is still in force at these places.

Police said the kind of enmity — either personal or business — is not known. “As the murder took place on the outskirts of town, there was hardly any CCTV cameras. Still we are using other tools to nail the assailants,” a police officer said.
