Pune: City traffic police have banned the entry of heavy vehicles at 32 junctions to avert traffic jams. The decision was taken after traffic snarls were witnessed on Friday and Saturday due to continuous rainfall and poor condition of the roads. “Now, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to ply on city roads between 9am and 10pm,” the city traffic police said, adding that the ban will remain in place till Aug 12.

Additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil said, “This has been done to avoid traffic jams on city roads. However, emergency vehicles will be allowed to ply on the city roads.” He added, “Heavy vehicles coming from other cities to Pune will not be allowed to enter the city from these chowks.



Traffic policemen will keep strict vigil. This will free the city roads and reduce traffic congestion .” Sancheti Hospital Chowk, Paud Phata Chowk, Rajaram Bridge Chowk on Sinhagad Road, Dandekar Bridge, Nilayam Talkies Bridge Chowk, Seven Loves Chowk, RTO Chowk, Khane Maruti Chowk, Shashtrinagar Chowk (Yerawada) and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk are some of the chowks where entry of heavy vehicles has been banned at present.
