Cooper Koch is gaining praise for his work as Erik Menendez in the new Netflix series Monsters , but he’s also faced some criticism for being part of the show. Ryan Murphy ‘s series has faced backlash for featuring “blatant lies” about the Menendez Brothers story and the real-life subjects have even slammed the show . Cooper doesn’t have social media, but his brother Payton took to Instagram to defend his brother’s performance and explain how he took “immense” care in his work.

“I won’t speak for Cooper but I will say that he cares immensely for the boys and stands with them and all victims of abuse,” Payton said (via People ). “He did everything he could to ensure their stories of abuse were seen on screen and I think in episode 5, it is abundantly clear where he stands.” Episode five was filmed in one take and has the camera slowly zooming in on Cooper ‘s face as he sits in a prison interview room while discussing his experience with sexual abuse with his lawyer.
