Rockstar has indefinitely delayed the coolest GTA game in years: San Andreas VR. After years of waiting for updates, Meta Quest users’ dream release has been unceremoniously shelved. Is GTA: San Andreas VR cancelled? Announced for Meta Quest headsets, GTA: San Andreas VR was pitched as a full remake of the classic PS2 game with motion controls.

Players would be able to play through the entire story, explore the iconic open world and cause general mayhem across the region. After its reveal way back in 2021, fans have held on hope for even the smallest scraps of news. Unfortunately, publisher Meta announced an indefinite delay of the project to focus on other titles.

In an email to IGN , a Meta spokesperson claimed that GTA: San Andreas VR is “on hold indefinitely.” Furthermore, the official Meta YouTube channel said development is “on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects”. However, Meta is still keen to work with Grand Theft Auto creator Rockstar in the future.

In the same comment, the official Meta channel said: “We look forward to working with our friends at Rockstar in the future.” Still exciting times for Meta Quest While GTA: San Andreas VR may be scrapped, there are other awesome exclusives coming to the hardware. For example, Meta Quest 3 exclusive Batman: Arkham Shadow already looks like a premiere VR title .

Nevertheless, it is a shame to see San Andreas’ VR port get shelved. After the huge success of Resident Evil 4 VR , this could’ve been the system seller Meta desperately needs for its VR ecosystem. Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 headsets are available now.
