Drier air settles across Alabama through the workweek, keeping rain chances near zero and humidity low. Check the video forecast for the latest. Last weekend's cold front will usher in a week’s worth of weather change for North and Central Alabama.

Temperatures will start out in the 70s Monday morning and struggle to climb to the lower 90s Monday afternoon. The excessive heat and humidity will be shoved off the Gulf Coast, and more breathable air will replace it on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. You will notice the change most in the mornings as temperatures drop as low as the upper 50s to lower 60s by Wednesday morning.

Some slightly more humid air will sneak in from the southeast late next week bringing a low chance of a few showers heading into next weekend. On August 19, 2024, sky watchers will be treated to a rare celestial event: the peak of Super Blue Sturgeon Moon. Let's break down what makes this moon so special: So, what does this all mean? You'll be able to enjoy a particularly large and luminous moon gracing the night sky.

It's a fantastic opportunity for stargazing, photography, or simply taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of our natural satellite. Fall officially arrives Sept. 22 with the autumnal equinox, but Alabamians should expect at least another month of summerlike temperatures.

High temperatures on the first day of fall have ranged from 73 degrees in 2020 to 96 degrees in 2022. Birmingham typically starts September with highs near 89 degrees and lows around 69 degrees. By month's end, those numbers usually drop to 82 and 62, respectively.

The city’s last 90-degree day typically occurs around Sept. 19. Rip currents will be less of a concern through the week due to the north wind, making it a safer time for swimming.

The weather this week will stay clear and sunny with temperatures in the low 90s, ideal for outdoor plans. Hurricane Ernesto stays far out in the Atlantic with no threat whatsoever for the Gulf Coast. We do not expect any tropical storm or hurricane threats to the Alabama or Florida Gulf Coast through the first week of September.
