The formalisation of the contract with the company Construções Gabriel A.S. Couto, SA , which marks the beginning of the construction work, took place at IP 's headquarters in Almada.

With a length of around six kilometres, the road section will have one lane in each direction and several roundabouts connecting to the local road network, improving safety and traffic conditions. According to IP, the new road route will run in a circular fashion around the city of Olhão, between kilometre 111.600 of the EN125, to the west of Olhão, and will end at the existing roundabout to the east of Olhão, which connects the EN125 and the EN398.

The project, financed by EU funds under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), aims to “ensure improved safety and traffic flow conditions” on the EN125, diverting traffic from the urban centre to outside the city of Olhão, the company states. This diversion, it concludes, will contribute to relieving traffic congestion in the city of Olhão and increasing road safety, mitigating the risk of accidents, particularly the risk of being run over..
