Friday, August 23, 2024 The Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam, an iconic luxury hotel situated in the heart of Museum Square, has been recognized for its continued commitment to sustainability. Green Globe recently recertified the hotel, awarding it an impressive compliance score of 90%. This historic hotel, which seamlessly blends its landmark heritage architecture with contemporary design, remains at the forefront of sustainable hospitality in Amsterdam.

Jantineke Eijkelenkamp, Sustainability Manager for The Set, the hotel’s managing group, expressed her pride in the Conservatorium’s ongoing sustainability journey. “We are constantly striving to enhance the sustainability of the Conservatorium Hotel. Thanks to the support of our partners like Green Globe, Klappir, and Frankenhuis, along with the dedication of our Green Team, we have made significant progress this year,” said Eijkelenkamp.

Sustainability Milestones and Community Engagement The Conservatorium Hotel was awarded Platinum status in 2022, marking a decade of continuous Green Globe certification. The hotel has implemented a wide range of sustainability initiatives, supported by an enthusiastic Green Team and staff members. These initiatives include the introduction of new technologies, the engagement of sustainable suppliers, and active participation in community and environmental causes.

Clothing and Linen Recycling The hotel has partnered with Frankenhuis, a provider of circular textile solutions, to recycle old uniforms and retired linens. Frankenhuis processes post-consumer and post-production textiles into new, usable raw materials, ensuring that worn clothing and textiles are repurposed rather than discarded. These recycled fibers find new life in industries such as automotive, furniture, and textile spinning.

Carbon Footprint Reduction In partnership with Klappir, a leader in carbon administration, the Conservatorium Hotel has successfully calculated its carbon footprint. The Klappir Sustainability Platform gathers and processes environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data across the hotel’s operations, facilitating transparent sustainability reporting. The data provides accurate measurements of the hotel’s carbon emissions, allowing management and staff to better understand their impact, identify areas for improvement, and benchmark their performance against other companies.

Klappir also tracks the effectiveness of new green initiatives by monitoring CO2 emissions, helping the hotel map out its journey toward achieving net-zero emissions. Community and Environmental Contributions The Conservatorium Hotel’s Green Team and staff are deeply committed to supporting the local community and environmental causes. The hotel organizes regular volunteer days, during which employees participate in initiatives such as cleaning plastic waste from Amsterdam’s canals in collaboration with the Plastic Whale foundation.

The team also assists the elderly by writing postcards for the Great Christmas Card campaign, an initiative by the National Elderly Foundation in the Netherlands. Additionally, the hotel supports the De Noordzee foundation by participating in nationwide beach cleanups, contributing to the preservation of the Dutch coastline..
