Regardless of whether it’s a hit or not, you can’t accuse Sony of not trying to get eyeballs in front of PS5 and PC hero shooter Concord . A new video uploaded to the official PlayStation channel includes an animated short, intended to give players a deeper insight into Freegunners Teo, Jabali, and It-Z. You can watch it above.

Most expensive limited edition PS5 pad yet This, according to Community Development Lead Bethany Hulse on the PS Blog , is the start of a new series. She explained: “As we look ahead to launch in August, we’re excited to further unpack our launch roster of 16 playable Freegunners, including a limited animated series called Concord Freegunner Adventures. The first episode drops today with Concord Freegunner Adventures: Crew First, which features Teo, Jabali, and It-Z taking a high-stakes job and going up against a rival crew.

” Hulse went on to explain that in addition to these animated shorts, developer Firewalk will also be creating a series of videos designed to showcase each character from the launch version of the game. These gameplay trailers will give you “a deeper look at their abilities and gear”. Each trailer, alongside every episode of the Freegunner Adventures, will be uploaded to PlayStation’s official YouTube channel .

If we extrapolate the beta numbers to the official release, then genuinely this might be one of the biggest Sony gaming bombs they’ve put out in a while. Returnal didn’t sell amazing but Sony didn’t own Housemarq at that time and the budget shouldn’t have been that huge. Sackboy and Destruction All Stars didn’t sell great either but those were obviously lower budget.

Concord getting all this promotion + weekly cinematics + recurring development spend due to its live service nature, it has to cost a pretty penny. Microtransactions cant help this game if it doesn’t have an audience in the first place. Maybe when reviews drop things will pick up steam, but at this rate I don’t see how this isn’t a financial disaster like Suicide Squad was.
