"With 20 years of dedicated service to the St. George Fire Department and Ascension Parish Fire District 3, Wingate’s contributions have made an indelible mark on the fire department," a news release states.

"Chief Wingate is recognized for his pattern of leadership, innovation, exceptional community service, professional development, integrity and contributions to the fire service as a whole." Daughters of the British Empire -- Strawberry Fields Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire held its monthly meeting April 28 at the home of Julie Wright-Rollins. Special memories of late member Nelda Boyd were shared along with a platter of her famous chocolate chip cookies.
