1 2 3 Mumbai: The state govt has set up six-member committee headed by Dilip Bhosale , former Chief Justice of the Allahabad high court, to help decide on over 1,000 religious structures that are in the Dharavi Notified Area. Sources said since 2015, there has been a committee under the additional chief secretary (housing) to decide on religious structures in slums that are undertaken for redevelopment. "Since the number of religious structures is voluminous and their relocation may become contentious, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL) that is implementing the redevelopment project requested the govt to set up a committee exclusively to decide on the religious structures in the Dharavi Notified Area," sources said.
The other members of the new committee include G M Akbar Ali, former justice of Madras HC. The committee will be responsible for determining whether these unauthorised religious sites should be demolished, relocated or regularised as part of the Dharavi redevelopment project. This decision comes in the wake of protests after BMC moved to demolish unauthorised construction at Subhani mosque.
