Former President Donald Trump's speech on the economy in North Carolina was highly notable and entertaining for one key reason, Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell wrote on Wednesday in a post on X. Specifically, he was unable to stick to the actual topic of the speech — despite trying to commit to memory how important it was and audibly disagreeing with his decision to veer away. "Funniest part of Trump's big 'economy speech' today was that he kept reminding himself aloud that he was supposed to be talking about the economy, but then immediately returned to rambling about tampons or San Francisco crime or whatever," wrote Rampell, posting an excerpt of what Trump said.

Inflation is the most important but that is part of the economy. Kamala Harris wants to be in charge of the entire U.S.

economy, but neither she nor her running mate — another beauty, isn't he? He signed a bill. He wants tampons in boys' bathrooms. I don't think so.

" Republicans have repeatedly made this claim, although the menstrual products bill Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz signed does not actually do that . All of this unfolded as Trump's running mate, Sen.

J.D. Vance (R-OH), spoke in Michigan, where among other things, he struggled to find local reporters to ask him questions and mixed up the Secretaries of Agriculture and Commerce .

Trump has engaged in fewer public events than usual in recent weeks; his most recent rally prior to the North Carolina event was last week in Bozeman, Montana. Election forecaster Nate Silver has been one of the most bullish on former President Donald Trump's chances at re-election in recent months, but even he believes the winds have shifted. In an interview on Fox News Wednesday evening, Silver said he believes the picture has changed dramatically in the few short weeks since President Joe Biden abandoned his re-election campaign and stepped aside for Vice President Kamala Harris .

"Polls are a snapshot of the time," said anchor Bret Baier . "You talk about this all the time. But where is the snapshot that you see right now in this race?" "If you have the election tomorrow, which would be a strange thing to do by the way, I think Harris would be a slight favorite," said Silver.

"She has been ahead in most recent polling in the 'blue wall' states, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan. Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, Nevada all polling in the margin of error range." ALSO READ: Sen.

One, we have three more months to go, there will be more surprises, and two, the polls have been wrong before, in the last two general elections they've both underestimated Trump." "Polling is difficult," he cautioned in response to Baier asking how that underestimation occurred. This comes as Goldman Sachs analysts take a similar assessment, noting that they are seeing a shift in voter preferences toward Democrats across the board in the past few weeks.

com Donald Trump’s campaign is in a tailspin this week as the Republican presidential nominee’s attacks on Kamala Harris fail to land, one Democratic strategist told Anderson Cooper Wednesday. “It’s very clear the former president is unraveling. He’s having a complete meltdown,” Ashley Etienne , a former Joe Biden staffer and political advisor, said during a segment on Cooper’s CNN show.

“Kamala Harris has got him a chokehold that is really driving him to the point of insanity, and really driving his campaign to the point of paralysis.” Etienne points out that Trump’s rise in the polls has flatlined, while Harris’ star continues to rise. She compared it to a shop that “needs new customers.

” What’s also frustrating for Trump is that “all of his attacks against Kamala Harris are being undermined by the facts,” Etienne said, noting the strong economic reports of late and border crossings down. “You underestimate Kamala Harris at your own peril and Donald Trump is finding that out now,” Etienne said. The campaign for Kamala Harris minced no words in its feisty response to J.D. Vance on Wednesday night, borrowing an old work-accident phrase to attack Donald Trump's running mate.

In a searing release, the Harris-Walz campaign said there have been zero days since " JD Vance insulted women across America." Attached to the release was a meme — a tactic Harris' younger campaign team has weaponized since her endorsement atop the ticket — featuring a Simpsons character hanging a panel with the number "0" next to the phrase "days without" and superimposed text "insulting women." The campaign jabbed that it was "a day ending y.

" The Harris camp specifically called out Vance's interview on Fox News with host Laura Ingraham, in which he was asked about women who are concerned the Trump-Vance ticket will pass a national abortion ban. "All these suburban women — all they care about is abortion and they don't understand the decision is with the states now," said Ingraham. "It's not banned nationally, even if certain people want it banned nationally, it's with the states.

What do you say to suburban women out there who are marinating in this propaganda?" Vance responded by saying: "Well, first of all, I don't buy that Laura. I think most suburban women care about the normal things that most Americans care about." The Harris-Walz campaign also attacked newly resurfaced audio in which Vance revealed what he believes is the lone purpose of women who no longer ovulate.

The political news station Heartland Signal took to X Wednesday to share a podcast interview from April 2020 in which Vance discussed his mother-in-law's role in raising his son. "It makes him a much better human being to have exposure to his grandparents," Vance said. "That's the whole purpose of the post-menopausal female," Eric Weinstein, host of “ The Portal ,” said.

Vance replied, "Yes." Sarafina Chitika said in a statement that Vance "thinks he gets to tell women how to live our lives." "He and Donald Trump want to control if and when women have children, ban abortion nationwide, and restrict access to IVF and birth control.

They need to mind their own damn business." "Women are sick of Trump, Vance, and their Project 2025 obsession with controlling private decisions," she added. "We'll shut the door on them this November.
