It’s the gift that keeps giving, at least for the opposition, the Conservative party, in the United Kingdom. The row over freebies given to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer refuses to die down even as he paid back more than £6,000 ($8,000 or Rs 6.62 lakh) worth of gifts and hospitality he received since entering 10 Downing.

But while he’s paid back this amount, it has been revealed that Starmer has received £107,145 ($140,515 or Rs 1.17 crore) in gifts, benefits, and hospitality since 2019. While these gifts are legal in nature, they have dented Starmer’s popularity ratings, with members of the Conservative party accusing him of being non-transparent and hypocritical, given they vowed to “clean up politics” if they entered government.
