Weather forecasts are indicating a ‘cold start’ to 2025 with a storm on the horizon for New Year’s Day. It comes following a mild end to the year, with Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly explaining that it is still ‘very hard to call’ whether we’ll have a white start to 2025 or not. The weather expert explained that the low pressure system was appearing a ‘little but further south.

’ The current change results in the reduction of stronger winds for ‘many areas’ but increases the risk of sleet and snow for the northern half of the country,’ Mr O’Reilly explained. He added that details will ‘chop and change’ over the coming days, with it hard to foresee if there will be snow or not. It’ll be a damp end to the year, however, with rain in the northwest on Monday and Tuesday continuing with a wet start leading to a potential storm on Wednesday.
