Prayagraj: To stop the use of plastic and also make the Maha Kumbh 2025 a plastic-free event, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation has decided to install bag vendig machines at major places of city. Civic body has planned to provide cloth bags to citizens by installing the vending machines at vegetable markets and other prominent areas. Municipal commissioner Chandra Mohan Garg said that these machines will be installed in other vegetable markets and major markets of tcity, including Bakshi Dam and Khuldabad.
At present, there is a plan to install machines at 15 places. As an experiment, a bag vending machine has been installed near the AG office sabzi mandi. One can get a bag by putting a 10-rupee coin or a 20-rupee note in the machine.
Apart from this, bags can also be obtained by depositing plastic items. PMC has also asked citizens for old clothes which can be reused as cloth bags. For this, centres have been set up at various places.
An agreement has been made with women's self-help groups for making bags, where they will be provided with sewing machines. TNN.
