Pune: The Mahalunge MIDC police on Tuesday arrested a 34-year-old man, a municipal council employee in Beed district, on the charge of robbing two daily wage workers of Rs50,000. According to the police, the suspect — Sanghpal Rode of Nighoje in Khed taluka — and his accomplice, who is still absconding, had committed the crime on Aug 24 at Nighoje village in Khed taluka. Laxmandas Nagodas (21), a worker who hails from Dumka district in Jharkhand, had lodged a complaint against the duo.

Assistant inspector Kaylan Ghadge, while talking to TOI, said Nagodas and his colleague were targeted by the suspects around 6 pm. “The victims were walking towards a shop in Nighoje village for transferring money to their families in Jharkhand. This is when they were stopped by Rode and his aide who arrived there on a scooter with a billhook.



They threatened the victims and snatched Rs 40,000 from Nagodas and Rs10,000 from his colleague,” Ghadge said. “The suspects then fled on their scooter, but Nagodas had noted down the registration number of the vehicle,” the officer added.
