Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to inspect the Katraj-Kondhwa Road where potholes emerged a few weeks after repairs. The civic body will scrutinize the materials used for the repairs. "The repairs should be of good quality.

They should be carried out in a scientific manner. We will check if all the due processes were followed or not while repairing the road," said Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC's road department. Citizens have said that the roads are of poor quality and it is double challenge for them.

They said that they are suffering while commuting on the road and, in addition to the suffering, it is a wastage of public funds. The residents in the vicinity said the road repairs were done in the end of Aug and the first week of Sept. These repairs lasted just a week, they said.

"The civic administration should make sure that they are giving us a good road. The commuters face a lot of hardships while using the Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Years have passed, but the problems still persist," said Rucha Athawale, a resident of Katraj.

Dinesh Joshi, a resident of Rajas Society, said commuting in the vicinity is next to impossible because of mismanaged traffic. "The biggest concern in our area is traffic jams . Not only small vehicles, but heavy vehicles also pass through the junction.

It has made the issue more serious. The whole stretch has become accident-prone," he said. The Katraj-Kondhwa Road covers areas like Rajas Society to Khadi Machine Chowk up to the newly merged Pisoli.

PMC has already utilised around Rs 48 crore from the public funds on this road so far. As per the civic officials, the state govt has approved funds of Rs 200 crore. It will be sufficient only for building a 50-metre road.

If the 84-metre road had been built, the civic administration would have needed around Rs 360 crore. As per the civic officials, the road width has been reduced from 84 metres to 50 metres as the land was not available for the project. The civic administration needs around 2.

88 lakh sqm of land out of which 1.60 lakh sqm is in the possession of PMC, while 1.28 lakh sqm is yet to be acquired.

The stretch of the road is around 3km. The works of laying service lines in nearly half of the road is complete. The construction of an underpass and flyover near the road is underway, said the PMC officials.
