1 2 3 4 5 6 Prayagraj: Several govt, social organisations and educational institutions of the city joined the nation in celebrating the 78th Independence Day on Thursday through a series of programmes. At Reserve Police Lines, chief guest, cabinet minister Swatantra Dev Singh hoisted the national flag and honoured distinguished players. On this occasion, a cultural programme was presented by schoolchildren.

The police commissioner and the district magistrate presented a memento to the chief guest. The day was celebrated with enthusiasm in the High Court as well where Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice Arun Bhansali, hoisted the national flag on the court campus in the presence of all judges. Advocate general of Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Kumar Misra, also hoisted the flag on the lawn of his office in the presence of state law officers and staff.



Besides, president of Allahabad High Court Bar Association, Anil Tiwari, took part in celebrations in the bar association office in the presence of the secretary of the bar, Vikrant Pandey, and other lawyers. At the headquarters of Central Air Command (CAC), Bamrauli, CAC, Air Marshal AK Bharti, hoisted the tricolour and led the Tiranga cycle rally wherein about 35 participants carried the national flag symbolising speed, strength, and patriotism . Celebrations were also held at North Central Railway (NCR) headquarters.

General manager Upendra Chandra Joshi hoisted the national flag and inspected a parade. “Indian Railways is the prime mode of transport for common men in our country and NCR, with its motto of ‘Mobility is Our Hallmark’, serves the nation as one of the frontline operational zones. We are primarily a passenger-oriented through-movement system.

However, in addition to it, we also have the responsibility of ensuring the smooth and regular supply of coal from mines in eastern India to thermal power stations in northern India,” he said. Joshi added that for ease of movement of passengers on stations, escalators and lifts have been installed. He said NCR is one of the pioneers to implement the KAVACH system over the main routes of the zone.

During the last financial year, it has been installed over 262 km route. At Allahabad University, vice chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava led the celebrations and said the university was moving towards progress. “At present, teachers and employees from 30 states are working in the university.

In the last three and a half years, over 350 teachers and 700 non-teaching staff have been appointed. More than 350 non-teaching staff will join the university soon. Teachers are the guardians of the students, and they should listen to their problems and save them from mental stress,” she said.

On the occasion, many teachers were honoured. At Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University, in Phaphamau vice chancellor Prof Usha Tandon said the day honours the indomitable spirit, courage, and sacrifices of millions of Indians who fought for a free nation. At Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, VC Prof Satyakam said the sacrifice of the freedom fighters teaches patriotism and ‘inspires us to fulfil our duties’.

He added that the open university has launched a campaign in the state to ensure that no girl is deprived of higher education. At NTPC Vindhyachal, executive director E Satya Phani Kumar highlighted the station's achievements in power generation and community development. He said NTPC Vindhyachal reached new operational heights, including generating 37,387 million units in the financial year 2023-24 and securing the top rank.

At United University Jhalwa campus, all dignitaries, staff members, and students at the university and United Institute of Medical Sciences (UIMS) took a ledge to serve the nation diligently. At Shringverpur Dham, according to the tradition of ancient gurus, the tricolour was worshipped with Vedic rituals..
