1 2 Kanpur: Thousands of devotees on Monday congregated at Shri Radha Krishna Temple (JK Temple) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna with traditional fervour. The temple was exquisitely decorated with flowers for this auspicious occasion. The deities inside the temple were adorned with divine blossoms, ornaments, and attire.

Abhishek Singhania and Varsha Singhania, temple trustees and the pradhan sevak, along with other family members, conducted a special worship ceremony for Vrindavan Bihari. The students of the temple's Gurukul recited Vedic hymns. Spectacular pyrotechnics were displayed to mark the birth of Nandlala (Lord Krishna).



The temple, illuminated with beautiful lights further enhanced by the musical fountain. After the worship and aarti, ‘maha prasad’ was distributed to all devotees who not only had the opportunity to have a ‘darshan’ of the deity but also relished the fair organized within the temple premises. Devotees visited the setups of Mata Vaishno Devi and Amarnath Cave, where they had ‘darshan’ of Mata Rani and Baba.

They also shopped extensively from "Kanha Kothi" to prepare for the worship and adornment of Gopal. Spiritual and cultural programs were presented by prominent cultural groups from the city. The event began at 4.

30 pm with Vedic chants, followed by captivating performances of music, dance, and drama by artists from Kalakunj Group, Rhythm Group, Kalanidhi Group, Navrang Group, Krishna Kalakunj Group, and Dhanashree Band. The highlight of the evening was the enactment of ‘Krishna Janmotsav and Bal Leela’," which enthralled the audience. On Tuesday, musical dance and drama performances depicting Putna Vadh, Vakasur Vadh, Aghasur Vadh, and Kalia Mardan were held in the temple premises.

Iskcon Temple: A grand festival was celebrated with enthusiasm and joy on the occasion of Janmashtami at the Iskcon Temple, Manavati Marg, on Monday evening. The entire temple premises were adorned with flowers. The temple was decorated with depictions of Krishna's Kaliya Pond, cowshed, and gardens, all illuminated with lights.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, the cultural evening featured traditional dance performances, short plays, and depictions of Krishna's pastimes were presented by young children, based on Krishna Leela. Particularly, the dance and bhajan performances by Krishna Dance Group, Tarangini Group, Swaranjali Music, and others on Shri Krishna's sweet hymns left everyone spellbound with devotion. The festivity began at 4.

30 pm with Mangala Aarti in which lakhs of devotees received the special Janmashtami darshan of Shri Radha Madhav. This year, skilled artisans from Vrindavan prepared a jewel-studded outfit for Radha Madhav. From 10 am onwards, the devotees began offering Tulsi to the Lord.

During the divine bath, Shri Radha Krishna was ceremonially bathed in special conch shells. Almost all temples in the city observed Janmashtami with joy and fervour. Besides temples, devotees celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna at their homes.
