“We don’t have to cook today,” one diner commented. That chore belonged to the SSPP Ladies Auxiliary, who prepared 12 turkeys for the feast to go with ham, salad, bread, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and dessert. The meal, explained Luba Krstevski, is “open to anyone in the area who doesn’t have a place to go for the holiday,” Krstevski’s husband Bob is church president and was involved in the church’s founding in 1960.

The cathedral is the first Macedonian Orthodox church consecrated in North America. Gligorov, today a co-pastor of the cathedral, noted “We’re always happy to share our church with you in the community.” The co-pastor said his church is experiencing a resurgence of immigrants, some of whom are not familiar with this American holiday.



“It’s open to all,” Gligorov said, adding, “We thank God for these beautiful ladies doing this.” The Ladies Auxiliary’s responsibilities include a Christmas party, Mother’s Day event, benefit fashion show for the American Cancer Society, children’s parties, Sunday school, and Valentine’s Day program. Marlana Joshevska, church vice president, said the holiday meal represents “one of the ways we can be present in the community.
