It's better if it's battered is the motto of chippies - and that applies to Christmas favourites. From pigs in blankets to Brussels sprouts and even mince pies, a number of chippies across Nottinghamshire are putting their own spin on festive classics. Georgio's in Sneinton has gone all out with its Christmas specials.

Battered sprouts and Camembert cheese wedges in batter are served with cranberry sauce. A festive pizza comes topped with stuffing, pigs in blankets, caramelised onions and cranberry sauce and for dessert mince pies have been given a chippy makeover, frying them in batter, and serving with ice cream. Mike Konstandi, who runs the chippy in Sneinton Dale, said: "The most popular believe it or not is battered Brussels sprouts, they do really well, and the Camembert cheese wedges.



I'm surprised as sprouts are a bit of a love-hate vegetable but we've been doing them for years and they are quite popular. "We'll get messages beforehand, when are the Brussels coming up, then on social media you'll get people loving then and you'll get people saying I don't believe you're doing that - it is a bit of a split but they are popular. "We had nothing like this a long time ago, it's just moving on with the times and demand.
