The Dallas native, 45, explained the series of events on the podcast How Rude, Tanneritos , which is hosted by Cameron Bure's Fuller House costars Jodie Sweetin, 42, and Andrea Barber, 48.



'It was a bummer for me - it really was,' Lakin said of missing out on the opportunity to appear on Fuller House, which ran for five seasons on Netflix from 2016–2020. Lakin, who played the role of Alicia 'Al' Lambert on the ABC series Step by Step from 1991–1998, was a part of a group of one-time child actors who formed a group called Child Celebrities Opposing Kirk Cameron in April of 2012. The group formed after the Growing Pains star called homosexuality 'unnatural' and said same-sex marriages are 'detrimental' in a CNN interview.

Pictured in LA in 2023 Candace Cameron Bure, 48, and brother Kirk Cameron, 53, pictured together in 2018 Lakin, who has worked extensively as a voice actor on shows such as Family Guy and Clarence, was joined in the clip by fellow performers such as Maureen Flannigan, Kenn Michael, Keith Coogan, Josie Davis, Brice Beckham and Jeremy Licht in denouncing the aforementioned views expressed by Kirk Cameron. Lakin said on the podcast that 'seven years before' the Fuller House opportunity came about, she 'participated in a Funny or Die video.

Lakin said she had been 'asked to participate with a bunch of other former child actors in this satirical video, sort of calling out these statements,' adding, 'It was funny - listen, it was a satire, you know?' Lakin said that she had been slated to play a role on Fuller House - in which Cameron Bure reprised her role of D.J.

Tanner-Fuller - when the role was abruptly pulled off the table. 'Then about two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, "Yes, something happened - they’re pushing the table read - I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite,"' she said. 'The next day happened and my manager calls and says, "Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve been let go.

"' Lakin said she asked for clarification, and her agent said that the character was going to be rewritten 'and they’re not going to need you anymore.' Lakin said, 'I was like, "What did I do wrong?" I didn’t even go to a table read.' Lakin said she thinks Cameron Bure (pictured in April in NYC) was instrumental in her ouster from the rebooted sitcom based off her past involvement in the clip aimed at Kirk Cameron Lakin said that she had been slated to play a role on Fuller House when the role was abruptly pulled off the table Lakin said her agent told her of the Netflix show, 'They’re not going to need you anymore' Lakin said in looking back on the series of events, she thinks Cameron Bure was instrumental in her ouster from the rebooted sitcom based off her past involvement in the clip aimed at Kirk Cameron.

'All I can think of is that it created some bad blood,' Lakin said. 'And seven years later, I was not, my presence was not wanted - that’s maybe what I think.' The role that Lakin was up for, a character named CJ Harbenberger, eventually went to Lakin's friend Virginia Williams, who appeared on 11 episodes of the show.

Fuller House was a sequel series to Full House, which aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995; Fuller House aired from 2016 to 2020.
