Tickets for all four nights at Croke Park have long been sold out since they went on sale last year. Coldplay's Chris Martin has previously said he knows U2's back catalogue by heart. The group are set to play four sold-out gigs as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour – their first time playing in Ireland since 2017. Tickets for all four nights at Croke Park have long been sold out since they went on sale last year. But ahead of their first night in Croker, frontman Chris decided to take a stroll around Dún Laoghaire, where he bumped into a few fans.

Killiney woman Rachel Robertson was among the Coldplay lovers who met him along the pier with her pal Ayla. Rachel was over the moon to meet the superstar as she had just been scammed out of €400 after trying to purchase tickets to one of their gigs on social media. Speaking to Graham and Nathan on FM104, Rachel recalled her run-in with the Viva La Vida singer.

"Basically, yesterday I got scammed stupidly on Facebook, it was a very good scam; a friend of a friend's Facebook was hacked so I thought it was pretty legit, but obviously the hackers got me, and I lost €400 in the end," she explained. “I just went down the pier for a stroll with one of the girls and Ayla spotted Chris Martin; he was just walking towards us, and it was just very casual. "He was just like 'What happened? Tell me the story' and we did and he said, 'Are you being truthful now?' “Then he said 'Let me send a selfie to the scammer' but it was obviously blocked.

Rachel said Chris then offered to give her a pair of VIP tickets to their show in Croke Park on Monday. "He said, 'I'll send you over tickets' and then jokingly he said, 'You're not telling lies now, are you?' and we were like, 'No, I swear.'” The shell-shocked fan added that both Chris and his manager were “really nice”.

It comes after Dublin-based Coldplay fans were treated to an early surprise with Chris Martin performing a short set in the city centre on Wednesday evening. A huge crowd began to gather on Grafton Street when rumours began to spread that an appearance could be in store. He was joined by Nigerian singer Burna Boy, Argentine singer Tini, Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna and English rapper Little Simz, who all feature on Coldplay’s new single We Pray.

The group played the song three times together before departing. There was a heavy garda presence and a video crew on hand to capture the performance, which is set to be used for the song’s music video. "Thank you so much for listening to the same song three times and see you tomorrow,” Martin told the crowd following the surprise appearance.
