Princess Chitsulo Foundation, led by gospel musician Princess Chitsulo, on Saturday presented certificates to 30 young people who finished six-month training where they gained musical skills. The colourful event held in Machinjiri, Blantyre, attracted people from all walks of life, including President Lazarus Chakwera’s adviser on creative industries Q Malewezi and Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) Board Chairperson Bishop Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango. Chitsulo hailed Cosoma, through the Copyright Fund, for assisting their project.

“We engaged experienced players who taught these young people music from theory to practical. We noticed a gap and that is why we embarked on this project,” the ‘Petulo’ star said. Chitsulo said they would want to continue the initiative but that everything would depend on the availability of resources.

“We are sending a message to well-wishers out there to partner us so that we can be able to acquire our own equipment for the academy and help change the lives of young people in the community,” she said. Chitsulo observed that there was talent in communities but that there were no proper platforms to nurture it. “Imparting knowledge in these young people also means empowering them and also taking them away from embarking in bad behaviours,” she said.

At the event, the foundation also decorated Mr. Entertainer Jai Banda with the best music promoter award whereas Daniel Makaula was given an award for being compassionate towards music promotion..
