With these policies in place, the country is witnessing a significant uptick in visitor numbers and engagement with its rich cultural heritage. In the first 11 months of 2024, China welcomed an impressive 29.
218 million foreign visitors. Among these, 17.446 million entered visa-free, marking a remarkable 123.
3 percent year-on-year increase. This rise is fueling a growing demand for immersive cultural experiences, showcasing the global appeal of China’s traditions. China’s extensive cultural heritage is a magnet for tourists.
The nation boasts 1,557 nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage items, offering visitors a myriad of opportunities to delve into its rich traditions. Quanzhou City in Fujian Province, for instance, has become a hotspot for international tourists, with its iconic string puppet shows captivating audiences from around the globe. A recent survey conducted by the China Tourism Academy revealed that over 60 percent of respondents identified experiencing Chinese culture as their primary motivation for visiting.
