Thursday, August 29, 2024 In a joint report by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), a global non-profit, and AECOM, a leader in infrastructure consulting, it was disclosed that the world’s top 20 museums experienced a dramatic influx of visitors in 2023, totaling 99.76 million. This represents a remarkable 65.

9% increase from the 57.13 million recorded in 2022, highlighting a robust recovery and growing interest in cultural institutions globally. The surge in museum visits was particularly pronounced in the Asia-Pacific region.



Here, the number of museum visitors soared to 71.77 million in 2023, which is a staggering 167.5% increase from the 26.

83 million visitors in 2022. This substantial rise underscores the region’s increasing role as a cultural hub, attracting both local and international tourists. In 2023, China distinguished itself as a cultural powerhouse within the global museum landscape.

Seven of the top 20 most-visited museums worldwide were located in China, including prominent institutions such as the National Museum of China, China Science and Technology Museum, and the Nanjing Museum. Other museums in this prestigious list were Suzhou Museum, Hunan Museum, Hubei Provincial Museum, and Guangdong Museum, each contributing to the country’s growing reputation as a leader in cultural enrichment. This data not only reflects a significant rebound in cultural tourism but also highlights the expanding influence of the Asia-Pacific in the global arts and culture sector.
