Monday, January 20, 2025 Macao’s hotel occupancy is set to hit 90-95% this Lunar New Year, fueled by festive travel, rising bookings, and a surge in mainland visitor crossings. Macao Hotels Expect High Occupancy Rates During Lunar New Year Festivities Hotel occupancy in Macao is projected to soar to 90-95% during the Lunar New Year holidays, traditionally a peak season for the city’s hospitality sector. Speaking to local media, Cheung Kin Chung revealed that approximately 60% of hotels in Macao had already been reserved for the holiday period, with additional bookings anticipated in the coming week.
A mainland tourist interviewed by TDM shared that hotel rates during the festive season ranged between 3,000 and 4,000 patacas per night, while another visitor noted that a price of around 2,000 patacas was “reasonable” for her family of four. She added that higher rates would prompt her to consider staying in nearby Zhuhai instead. The introduction of multiple-entry permits for residents of Zhuhai and Hengqin on January 1 has further boosted Macao’s tourism prospects.
The policy has already resulted in a significant influx of visitors, with mainland authorities reporting about 430,000 crossings at the Border Gate on Saturday, marking a five-year high. Between January 1 and 18, the average daily number of entries and exits at the Border Gate reached nearly 360,000, reflecting a more than 20% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Customs officials expect this heig.
