Friday, November 22, 2024 China leads rural tourism globally, with 15 villages recognized as UNWTO’s Best Tourism Villages, showcasing culture, heritage, and sustainable practices. China has solidified its standing as a global leader in rural tourism, with seven additional villages earning recognition among the “Best Tourism Villages of 2024” by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This achievement brings China’s total to 15 villages on the prestigious list—the highest for any nation.
The accolade highlights China’s dedication to preserving its rural heritage while fostering sustainable tourism practices. The newly recognized villages span diverse regions, each offering unique cultural and historical attractions. Azheke in Yunnan Province is renowned for its mushroom-shaped houses and Hani ethnic culture, while Guanyang in Fujian Province captivates visitors with its tulou earthen buildings and rustic charm.
Shibadong in Hunan Province, part of a vital cultural protection zone, showcases ancient Mao dwellings. Taoping , located in Sichuan Province, preserves the legacy of the Qiang ethnic group, one of China’s oldest. Xiaogang in Anhui Province holds historical significance as a pivotal site in China’s rural reformation, while Xitou in Zhejiang Province stands out for its celadon porcelain tradition amidst lush landscapes.
Lastly, Yandunjiao in Shandong Province attracts travelers with its wildlife and rural experiences, drawing 500,000 visit.
