Friday, November 8, 2024 China and the Solomon Islands have recently reached an agreement allowing nationals from both countries to travel visa-free for short stays. This move was celebrated by Chinese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, as a step into a “full visa-free access” era, aiming to foster stronger people-to-people ties between the two nations. Under this new agreement, Chinese passport holders can now visit the Solomon Islands without the hassle of obtaining a visa for short-term stays, and the same benefit applies to citizens of the Solomon Islands visiting China.

However, for those planning longer stays, a visa will still be required. With trips from China to the Solomon Islands gaining popularity in recent years, this visa exemption is anticipated to increase interest among Chinese tourists. Similarly, citizens of the Solomon Islands may find China more accessible and appealing now that the visa application process is no longer necessary for short visits.
