Wednesday, November 13, 2024 Winter tourism efforts and added holiday breaks are set to energize economic growth in both countries. China’s economic resurgence is in the spotlight as the nation prepares for an active winter tourism season. Local governments are launching initiatives to boost winter travel, anticipated to fuel economic growth.

As snow starts to blanket parts of the country, especially in the northeast, travel agencies report a noticeable rise in early bookings from visitors eager to experience the seasonal offerings. A major hotspot for this surge is Harbin in Heilongjiang province, famed for its renowned Ice Festival featuring intricate and artistic ice sculptures. Travel manager Wang Dingming highlights an exceptional level of tourist interest, marking a unique excitement this year.

China’s winter tourism boom is fueled by new guidelines from the State Council, promoting what is now known as the “snow and ice economy.” This initiative aims to grow winter tourism alongside sports and equipment manufacturing linked to these activities. Meanwhile, Thailand is drawing inspiration from such economic strategies, rolling out its own plans to revitalize the tourism industry.

The Thai government has announced the addition of two new public holidays and a longer New Year break to stimulate travel and accelerate economic growth. Thai officials revealed that June 2 and August 11, 2025, will be Monday holidays, and the New Year break will be extended to five days.
